Students are believed to be the pride of any society as they are expected to acquire the needed
knowledge to make their communities better. It baffles one to see that most of the necessary
equipments needed to train the students are not available to them.
The students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba- Akoko are one of the many Nigerian students
learning in an environment that lacks proper welfarism. Even with the great school fees increase nothing
was done to help alleviate the students suffering. Due to insufficient, Conducive hostels in the University, around 70% of the students live off campus and have to pass through the daily rigour of getting to their lecture theatres and are exposed to insecurity. Most of these off campus houses are built without a proper plan to make them overcome storms thereby, endangering the lives of innocent students who have only come to study. Yet, the institution management seems not to be bothered about it.
The rain and erosion of 2019 further exposes this reality that the lives of our dear AAUAITES are at a risk.
The rainfall brought most of the houses crumbling down, damaging properties, injured students and
even swept a final year student away in its flood. It is at this moment that the institution management
and some government officials decided to do something by demolishing improper structures. There is a popular saying that “Precaution is better than cure” if there have been a proper inspection of land and buildings this tragedies could have been avoided.
It is hoped that proper actions will be taken by AAUA management, the Ondo state government and the community leaders to salvage the present situation and avert future crisis. So that the students can
study and live without fear and the mind of their parents and guardians will be at peace.
